I think...just to have them doing something I will make all of the character sheets with them interacting with their cellphone. Because I know most of them have one, except possibly Saril. Dante has one but he doesn't use it a lot, and when people start talking at him he hands it off to his wife. So basically Saril just has a personal answering service for "their" phone.

Little Owl Warmers on etsy

I spent the morning making things for my lunch, moving clean and dirty dishes around, and then sewing all the hand warmers I started. Now I have no good reason not to post them.

I'm pretty excited about these because they are super cute. I realized I have some dinosaur ones in the works as well.

Now I'm gonna go make myself a pita pizza for lunch and head off to work.

Well I cleaned off my desk and did some other things and then suddenly I whipped out the camera and my nifty new full spectrum light I got for christmas AND tada! I finally posted the hand warmers on etsy: hand warmers!

I hope to have more up as well as some other patterns, soon.

They are filled with organic short grain rice. microwave 30 seconds and it stays warm for an hour or more!

My test subjects at work are still seeing if they work cold as well, but I don't think it will do as well.

edit: OH! I also updated the name of the shop to be drown rat as well. I suppose many people won't get it, but oh well. That's what it is! TO BAD!

Wow its really amazing what having my desk cleaned off can do.

Yesterday I went to a bridal expo. No I'm not getting married, apparently you need another person to get married to for that. Many of my friends are or have, though. There was a fashion show. I made these sketches when I was at coffee today however.

I also worked more on a job I've been not doing. I like where its going, but I don't know if its going to turn out like I want. It may require some more artsy fartsy treatments than just throwing a half tone on it. Because Oooo I learned how to create the halftone look! Stupidly excited about that one. Probably never going to get to use it!

I made a goal for myself, because I suspect that even if I don't think they work for me I might be wrong. I just don't get super excited when I meet my goal because, I'm past it at that point seeing something else out there. But if I don't have points to hit along the way I tend not to get anywhere? That is the hypothesis anyhow.

I really want to say that I've been doing nothing much and being a slacker. I have been doing things and now I feel like I deserve to nap for the rest of the winter.

I don't know if there will ever be a christmas where I don't make something for someone.

This year was mostly hand warmers, and accidentally scarves. I didn't actually give those as gifts, but mostly made them on request. That is a lot of knitting! And I still didn't really get rid of my yarn and/or bought more. I really only want it gone so I can make more things with new yarn.

Lately though I've had the itch to have nothing at all to do with yarn. But it is very easy to work with and doesn't require me to clean. Just to know where all my little sticks and bits are.

I did get to serve coffee to my sister today, something I wanted to do in my room for a while. Furniture will need rearranging and I need to find one of those little hex wrenches for ikea stuff. I got gifted two ikea end tables, and have no way of putting them together! I'm going to see about getting longer legs for one of them so it's at table height instead. It would be a matter of getting the wood and having someone drill holes. I could be especially po-dunk and just hammer blocks on the bottom...

maybe I'll see if the washer is done and if we have a hex wrench...

I am in the process of making hand warmers for people at work. Its flannel fabric with short grain brown rice in it. I also added a little wristlet made of some unused shoelaces so that they don't have to put them down, just let them go. You put them in the microwave for 30 seconds and they stay warm for quite a while. This pair has gone to my grandma who kept exclaiming how they were still warm so long after being out of the microwave and tossed around the table.

Prior to this I had made one out of a bandana so it can go around my neck/shoulders, filled with lots of rice. I microwave it for longer, but while sitting next to it on my desk I was struck with the idea for the hand ones. Its cheaper or the same price as those single use ones and at work we have a microwave in the cafe by the registers so people can just go over and rewarm them. They are also reasonably small enough so they could fit inside mittens or even on the palms of gloves. Its not usually my hand that gets cold in gloves, but my fingers. So that may not be as awesome, but that's also why I don't like gloves, they make my fingers colder not warmer.

the part where we naw on your hat until its useless is just so we can use the yarn from it for something else later.

strangely the awesome idea I had for something to make and sell relating to yarn, means I have to go to the fabric store. cuz damn! it is hard to contain knitting needles, and sometimes crochet hooks, with yarn made fabrics. They just poke through the holes all over the place.

I completed something!!! I am part of a sketch exchange on livejournal and almost everyone who has drawn my characters says how they didn't really understand the reference pictures and stuff.
So I finally made one of my characters a sort of page about them. A character page.
This is Case. I don't even know what he is. Sometimes people have characters that are based on just one animal, but I created these guys and THEN started using animal reference for them. So now I think of rat feet when I draw Case's feet, and I think of a kangaroo tail when I draw his tail (though slightly more flexy) I think of bull terrier ears when I draw the ears. I have no idea on the head and of course siamese cats for the points.

I decided he can turn into a lynx with wings, which I figured was a pretty awesome symbol for being the messenger. I mean who doesn't want to have your mail delivered by a silver lynx that is suddenly sitting on your kitchen table. Scare the crap out of you for pure hilarity.

While I was looking up owl wings I found this story, about wesley the owl and his person, and then I promptly cried all over. Then I went to work, and that was my day.

I'm starting to think that I should request closing shifts. I get so much done at home in the morning. So far I've used the telephone to deal with doctor stuff, I took most of the pictures for my scarf to go up on etsy. There is not a large market for knit and crochet stuff on there, but I'm really not sure what else I could do with the things I make.

Lots of other things need to be put in the works and I essentially have to make sure I have enough stuff continually lined up and going on so that the times when I dip down and don't want to function so well I can simply coast and take care of myself. Probably everyone doing their own business is laughing at me for making that statement, but I am well aware that all of them have times where they just want to say "fuck off" and sit in a corner and just make shit for themselves only. Lots of things that normally would be important to them, suddenly become whatever things, minimum operating procedure mode is enacted. If I set up in a style that allows me to do that, it won't be all apologetic when I need to detox from people and sit around processing all my latest info. It will happen, there is no use ignoring it, so I have some minor plans for that.

I am really warry of writing things down in a list format. Basically writing gets things out of my head, so if I make a list I now have "completed" all those things and tada never actually do them. Its not in my brain, therefore it is not immediately important. I do have a business notebook now though and use it like a journal to spew business things.

My camera has decided that using the auto flash is just too hard and it refuses. It is technically a pretty old camera, and I should consider getting a new one. I also can't figure out how to get it to to a timed shot otherwise I would have the damn scarf already posted. People seem to love things when someone is wearing them. blarg. I should research stuff like that and paste it into my notebook.

I think the chicken beads I made were a failure, but I might put them up anyhow. I have to see how many categories I get on etsy and how to arrange things. I need a yarn, atc, and clay category at the very least. I might put up a misfit or bin button and put discounted fails in there. No not everyone will think they're failures but its a quality and outcome issue. It is not what I was going for and...well mostly I don't want to have to make any more of them.

First is the chain I made for my purse. It does roll off the shoulder more than I would like, but its more something to get use to than a real problem.

Then I decided to make some hens out of clay and bake them. I wanted to try to make it look like they were glazed in a regular kiln and I think I mostly succeeded. I still want to color in their crowns and beak...maybe. I'll have to see how that goes.

Tada! I even crammed all my crap in it already. That is the second strap I created for it because the first 4 in 1 chain I made looked wrong. I am much more in favor of this style chain. I also now have blisters. Yay losing all my callouses after years of not doing this.

This purse is basically everything I can do craft wise, outside of cut and glue paper. I knitted the outside, crocheted the sides together, sewed the inside part by hand, put a small zipper pocket inside as well as a zipper on the top, and I made the chain strap myself. PLUS it was all out of materials I already had in my room. (I also draw, and attempt watercolors. I don't do windows...or dishes.)

My last purse cost 30 dollars. It was pretty cute, but not really durable. The knitting on this might get seriously crappy, but this purse will not fall apart. So best 30 dollars I never spent.

Okay so um maybe we're going for a post a day? Until I screw up and forget. ha ha.

anyhow I was going to make this into a scarf for a friend who really liked the pattern, but now I think I'm going to be lazy and selfish.

This was taking a LONG time to knit because I don't know much about knitting. I'm starting to understand more but I have no idea how the edges of this became as they are...my mind boggles and then stares blankly. So I would have to follow the pattern every single step of the way. Which sucks for me cause I normally like to watch movies and stuff while I knit. I'm not a zen knitting, I'm a finished product person.

So a while back I had the idea of turning the whole thing into a purse with the outside being the knit and then some funky fabric on the inside. Only then I lost the knitting somewhere and well generally was lazy.

Cleaned the crap out of everything. Now I have too much yarn and I bound off the knitting (improperly for the pattern) and I found a quarter flat of that orange fabric. Everything else in the background is clean laundry that hasn't made it to the magic world of "away" yet.

In other worlds around my room I have rings, and if it weren't knit I would make myself a chainmaille strap for it and be awesome. However the rings would super snag on the knitting all the time even if I closed them really well. So that is out. I may ask my brother for some of the leather from his motorcycle seat...as delayed payment. I don't need much of it. Then I might have to figure out rivets or something. I am unsure about where this part is going.

BUT the best thing is I totally got this little wallet thing a while back that also has a leaf pattern! Now I will be awesomely matchy.

I'm going to say most of the time I don't know what I'm doing. This is little exception.
I wonder how many images I can upload to blogger before it gets angry with me. Hopefully a lot.

I think I just have to accept that I make artwork that people need to understand like they understand blues music.

I like skull faces and sad faces and making drawings and putting random words with them that would probably depress most people. But it makes me happy, in a pleasant calm way. I changed the way the blog looks to this fishbones thing. Its pretty nifty.

Might get this place going again. Its part of the plan.

The words should have said "Imagine if I could just sleep life away" instead of how it reads here, but my brain had skipped town. It still sort of works.

I kind of want to make the rats saying all sorts of things like "F you, this is my purse. A-hole." I should go make a lunch for work though. boo.

[rats were drawn in a sketch book w/ ball point pen and then cut out and glued to the paper. The card is 4.5x6.5in. The saying is written straight on the card. I may do more to this later with ink or paint.]

The artist's way blog won't let me post on it anymore, but I know some people watch this blog (which I kind of abandoned, sorry). But I did want to say thank you for the birthday wishes!!!

I have a scanner on the way that should get here tomorrow and I'm super excited to be able to scan things again. Hopefully it will play nice with windows 7 and I can scan to my hearts content.

Been block printing things. I like the carving part more than the printing part though, so my runs have been pretty small. The goal is to get something like an etsy shop or a bigcartel shop running in tandom with a blog/website. But all that requires time and figuring things out so it might be a while still. And I have to get my mom's site up and running before anything. Cause that would be nice!

the weather is fantastic I broke out the "short pants" they are crop pants or whatever, capri? something. They are just clam diggers on me because I'm short, but oh well its not jeans.

I used a brush in photoshop to get this effect. Its not great painting or anything. But it is the beginning to the 100 words thing as well as the story that came out of it. Nothing is really happeneing though in the story so I don't know what will really come of it.

*I do not know why sometimes these don't load in internet explorer but I went back through everything IN internet explorer and only one thing didn't load other than this and I know I've had problems more than once before. I participated in the cheshire ball and while my cat doesn't have a whole lot to do with halloween I like him anyhow.

"Mooncat belongs to the moon. While he does not glow himself he can leave a dull white yellow glow trail, like a slug, and uses this ability to leave crude words or pictures on people's doors, porches or lawns. He can be found at night munching on berries from garden shrubs. Once Mooncat made the moon sad by not coming home in the morning, and he wears a "tear" around his neck to remember next time...probably. Mooncat is about medium dog sized."

imagine looking out front of your house and this giant cat-thing munching on your shrubbery! Maybe its because I don't associate halloween with scary its more of a family time feeling for me. Though lately with everyone going all over its less actual family time.

some day I'll actually get to make skull things in celebration. But who knows when I'll stop being a lazy poop and do that.

I intend to color it and give her servants and someone to be yelling at. This is where she finds out how much its costing her to keep the apartment that she use to live in, that ideally Nona would live in soon. The housing is usually passed through the family and isn't often very nice, but gets to be really expensive because no one lives in it for 10-20 years or more at a time and someone has to keep it from getting crappier. Usually this is another family business, taking care of a building and all the families that have "homes" there. I imagine Nona is at least 4th generation if not 5th in a line of magical people. and I just now decided that the first one was a man that was killed by his daughter...and thus the female line instead of a male one. So maybe more than 5 generations away from the original guy. All living in the crappy apartment at some point in their lives.

Like anyone cares about anything other than that the song is going on and it keeps getting interrupted. So I was driving home from work and I heard the song Radar Love by Golden Earring* and thought to myself (at the time I thought he was singing redeye love) how this is like one of my characters. Even though I know its not redeye, and instead radar I still think it fits.

Nicholas is death. So I can only assume he is destined to be with the character that brings life. Only it would be hard to be together? I think of the sun and the mood story and how they can never be in the same sky together even though they love each other or something. So basically they can be together from a distance. And even though nicholas is death its more of like a CEO thing, where he just has to do damage control should any of the reapers and stuff working with the souls have complications. It makes him have to be less like santa, and visit every dying thing everywhere all the time forever. I think originally his mother tried to help him when he was little but he quickly decided whatever system she had set up wasn't going to be effective and instated the current workings of dying and souls. None of which I have figured out yet.

*I'm not this music savvy, but I had to look up the song and...acquire it. So now I know all the details like who sings it etc.

anyhow. I have been liking limey green colors for a long while now and I want to have a place of my own to live in and basically have a life. So that's what I made.

there will be buttons across the top and in the middleish part information. I need to see about these gallery code or things. I like how it works but I haven't been able to find where people get them or if they just write the code themselves. I don't think they write it themselves...so its out there somewhere.

In the mean time I need to finish my resume and start turning it into regular businessy jobs. I just need a full time job that isn't as horrible as dealing with mean people all day in retail.

I've gone from feeling excited about getting done with school (before it ended) to enjoying not having to do homework, and now I feel like I have no direction and no drive to do anything at all.

the plan is to make myself a mini working vacation where I don't play video games and when I am sitting at my computer I am working on job stuff. Or I am laying around reading books and drinking juice, which makes me feel better emotionally.

if ever anyone needed an example of what not refilling your creative well does, I am a good one. it makes life just feel plain shitty. Like an ichy sweater only your body feels to heavy to scratch or take it off. and you can't come up with any better solutions than just laying there...

I feel very, detached from art. I talk about how I like to make things but when I go to do it I feel lost. I don't want to complete anything, I know everything in the world that I don't want to do.

What I want is to draw really simple things, and make really simple things. But this seems almost like I'm cheating myself. Because I can draw better than that, so I should. But I don't want to. I can create amazing shapes, but I don't want to.

I want to draw things with noodle arms, and for some reason little skulls. It makes people upset or uncomfortable the skulls. I've made four little clay people with skull faces so far and they are creepy, but happy to see me and I like them.

Just tried to take pictures of two of them, but I don't really feel like editing the photos right now.

I feel like I'm not doing what people expect of me. I'm not doing what I expected of me. I thought I would get done with school and feel like making a million things all over the place. But now when I start making something I am more likely to have no ideas or just feel very tired.

I sketch on it too but there are lots of serious...things...that don't really need to see the internet. I get upset and just make scribbles. Take tina sitting on the little stool, that was the first time I attempted her hair, it was sticky outy hair, then it was well kept short hair, then it was short hair with a hat and in the end I just "lit her head on fire" because I did not care anymore.

I also X things out much like that random spikey head in the middle there. I don't know and I don't really want to talk about it.

BUT! at one point I imagined up toaster cat. toaster cat (named thomas) is a toaster, and a cat. Mostly cat, but fully capeable of making toast. Little toasty slots in his back are where the toast goes. When he was a kitten you had to use the little toasts, which taste icky. Then he graduated to english muffins and can now easily handle toasting regular sized bread and the occasional bagel. However sometimes toaster cats can make breakfast (or toast time) difficult. What happens when thomas doesn't want to just sit nicely and toast things. You end up chaseing your toast around until its done. If you make him mad he burns your toast, but only if you make him really mad because usually smoke means he gets water dumped on him (no electic toasting, magic toasting, so water to put out fires is fine). Then there is the litter box, cause he can totally "accidentally" get litter all on your toast if you aren't careful. And before all that what if Thomas is not in a toasting mood? even the oracle has a hard time with cats, but she loves him.

This is a "photo" of Ariel (right) and Tina. Tina is the oracle who previously didn't have a name. I love tina. Tina is probably me if I were, more outgoing/curious, had straight hair, and was thinner. and had way smaller boobs. They are not proportionate to one another, and ariel gets wonky looking legs because I was busy drawing and didn't notice till I was scanning it in.

I was upset with the abilities of my pencil. It was being squeeky on the paper and not very good with the shadeing. so I recovered from my DUH moment and got out my set of gray markers. Tada shading.

it looked better on the other side of the paper, but it didn't scan well.

oh so being all taken care of by her mother's servents and peoples, nona kind of sucks at living on her own. She managed to unpack blankets..and shovel them into a corner. and sleep. off to a good start! yes.

I don't like this one anymore, but I had fun drawing the outfit. I used non-photo blue pencil to draw and then went over it with marker. Then I made the outline digital. so tada.

this is I guess preliminary for nona's mom. She's some amazing magical person with a pet dragonthing, but I haven't figured out whats up with it all yet.

Nona is pissed because she is outside in the cold. Libby is in love with the guy, though rationally not in love with him? or something. So she's fine being there because he is. It looks mainly like someone is taking a picture of them in the snow.

took a week off to mope. I want to be done mopeing, so if I'm not its likely going to make me angry. Tomorrow's goal is quick ugly art or messing around with brush and ink.

oh the nameless guy has a whole creature of the night thing going on so the snow makes everything really bright. Plus being in sunglasses all the time is totally cool... yes. maybe.
anyhow, you are born normal human looking childthing and over time your hands/arms kind of grow into monstery furry claw things. It use to be a seperate ...species? that eventually turned into werewolf looking things, ears and snouty thing etc. However because they interbred with people the process of turning into the werewolf stops at various stages. So people have tails or ears and all over face hair with a weird facial structure. so this guy above is actually pretty lucky his face isn't stuck half way between human and animal.

I just liked the shoe design, and I figured it would look all cutesy with the swingy feet on a wall and then it wasn't working and smooshpainting and blaaaaah. Thus the top of it doesn't follow the same drawing style as the bottom half, because I kept redrawing the bottom half. But in the right top corner you can see the style of shoe I was trying to go with.

I don't know anything about a laundry mat, but I am in love with them. I feel like such a slumming yuppie. I don't know that the novilty will ever wear off though, I've taken a train every other day for over two years now and I still find them just as nifty. Same thing with the L and other things I can't remember right now. OH! container ships. and frankly forklifts are pretty amusing too.

this is the main character. She's not always useless. Thats kind of a lie, though. I guess I should say she's not always a crying lump of useless. She is sometimes a functioning useless. I want the story to be like regular people interacting, but with some weird bits and magics thrown in. Those tunic things are suppose to be black, or a dyed black/faded-ish. Its required attire for magicless "witches" not every one is magic, most people aren't. However at a certain point 15-20ish people who are "witches" (might change this to sorcerers or come up with a name) lose their powers. The powers may or may not return. At this point they are traditionally cast out into the world, though provided a place to live, with not much.

some houses/families have crest like symbols and others do not.

I think I want to call her friend yelling at her Sibil. Sib Sibby ... Or something with an S sound.

I joined artslam on livejournal. I'm wishing a little bit that I hadn't because my friends list over there is just completely over run by everyone posting the first day. I suspect it will slow after time, but its kind of crazy for me, my friends list is usually not so active.

anyhow. I am going character concept/development for this one story I've been building in my head. This isn't even one of the main characters. Its a minor character's secretary. She popped into my head because the main character is taken to see the oracle or whatever word I should use for that. I need to do research. Anyhow they first encounter Miss Ariel. She acts like she hates her job but that's just how she is and the oracle likes her so it doesn't really matter what anyone else thinks.

so many characters don't have names, including the main character. I think one of them is John, John and his strange friend Carl. and then Ariel. 3 of 7(that I know of) characters. I am aiming for 9 total, but that might not be how it turns out.

the first guy is actionscript man. SUPER actionscript man*... yeah. I spent most of class on tuesday playing bubble tanks and "taking notes" Then I realized that it was easier to type the notes into my action script as comments.

I draw what I consider A LOT of self portraits. I read or heard once that people tend to like their faces more than their bodies because that's what we see in the mirror most often, and become use to seeing. In order to become acustomed to your body you would either get a full length mirror or take pictures of yourself.

Instead of pictures I chose to draw myself. I find even this works and I've become much more okay with my body. Which leads to me worrying less over things I can't control (what other people think about me) and allows me more time to think about other useless things, or fawn over any new books I have recently gotten.

I am upset that I can't get my touchbar things on the side of my tablet to zoom in when I move up and zoom out when I move down, its backwards. scrolling down zooms in...and that just doesn't seem right. I haven't googled it yet to see if its a fixable thing, so hopefully it is. It seems like I should be able to set that kind of preference.
